Product Management E-Book Series

Why an E-Book Series?

I’m choosing to write a series of e-books on product management rather than write one large book because, quite frankly, I don’t think anyone really wants to sit and read a huge book on product management. There are examples and successful books available and the cost upwards of $75 or more. While that is not much money for a textbook or a professional book, that is a bit of an investment, especially if you’re not interested in every topic that book offers. What if you need several books to cover the gaps in your knowledge or to get ideas on best practices to apply to your role to advance your projects and your career?

That’s why I’m doing a series. My philosophy is to provide chapter-sized mini-books covering a wide range of topics in product management. The plan is to address the basics for junior or mid-level product managers as well as enterprise level topics for executives and for those who want to add some tricks to their toolbox to move up in their career. This way, you can grab what interests you and what you need without paying for added chapters.

Why not just use a GPT?

Sure, you can use a GPT and ask it questions and it will give you a ton of text. Some of it may be applicable but mostly if you have used them extensively, they are only “so” useful. If you blindly trust what the GPT says when you rush through it with product questions, then you will get caught in a poor place in a meeting sooner rahter than later.

If you’re going to use GPTs in your job, and I recommend them, you need to do so deliberately and with goals in mind. In fact, that will be one or more of the e-books coming in this series to apply best GPT practices in product management. I have an e-book comining soon with over 30 prompts that will get you out of writer’s block and straight into useful artifacts you can modify and get ready for a peer review much faster.

Why consider my series?

Why should you trust me? Good question. In my over 15 years as a product manager, I have worked in many different industries from consumer silicon, defense, medical devices, large scale SaaS, cybersecurity, and AI/ML. I have worked for amazing companies ranging from startups of 5 people to global powerhouses such as Amazon, SAIC, Booz Allen Hamilton, Pratt & Whittney, Qualcomm, and T-Mobile to name a few. I have worked with some of the most amazing teams at all those companies, and I had the awesome privilege of amazing mentors and coworkers with whom I learned and honed my bag of best practices, and with whom I have left each project in a better state than when I started.

I have read a lot. I have done a lot. I have tried many things in many different ways. I have a huge depth of experience in this role as a product manger and I know my experinece will help you in your role no matter if you are at a startup or if you feel (incorrectly) that you are a “cog in the machine” at a huge global company. I can help you get noticed. I can help you move the needle.

Get my product management education – efficiently

Efficiency. That is one of my keywords, which I use in a lot of client engagements and a theme I carry with me in my roles a product manager. Efficiency in this context is not just knowing a bunch of best practices, knowing a bunch of product management frameworks, and knowing a bunch of tools. Efficiency is applying these concepts with ownership and leadership in such a manner that your team opperates more smoothly: fewer meetings, shorter meetings, everyone “in the same groove.” Getting things done is your job. Getting things done efficiently is noticed. This paragraph has been a freebie!
